Don Amado on the way to MexicoFebruary 2009 – The Diving Support Vessel “Don Amado” was delivered in late December 2008. The ship is now on its way to Mexico, where it will be used for construction and maintenance work on offshore installations, and hoisting and diving work at sea. De Boer Staal supplied 2300 tons of steel plating and 400 tons of Holland profiles, Grade A ship quality, for the vessel. The “Don Amado” is the first ship in a series of three Diving Support Vessels being built by the De Hoop Shipyard for the Mexican company Oceanografia. De Hoop has an excellent reputation for designing and building Diving Support Vessels. The “Don Amado” was built in Lobith and then moved to Rotterdam on the River Waal. The bridge of the ship was removed beforehand to prevent collisions with the bridges spanning the river. After a journey of sixteen hours, the “Don Amado” reached Rotterdam and the bridge was installed again. The ship was then fitted out and equipped with a large 300-ton crane. After successful sea trials, the “Don Amado” was delivered in late December 2008 before leaving for Mexico. The vessel is 105 metres long and 24 metres wide, and it can accommodate a crew of 250. The ship will be equipped in Mexico with a diving system for 12 people that can reach depths of 300 m. The ship also has a helicopter pad for transferring the crew from ship to shore. |
